Airport Development
Airport Development provides technical assistance to city, county and other local airport sponsors as well as private entities on airport and aviation matters including construction, maintenance, and operations of airport facilities; and airport navigational aid facilities.
Airport Development reviews the annual airport capital improvement program to prioritize statewide aviation needs, administers the state Airport Aid Program and federal grants which provide funding to local governments for eligible aviation improvements; identifies and implements statewide aviation system improvement projects and represents the state's interest in other aviation matters as necessary.
Airport Development staff consists of an Airport Development Engineer and four Project Managers, each assigned to a geographical region of Georgia.
Airport Consultants
Airport Consultants must be prequalified by the Georgia Department of Transportation in order to do business in the state.

An airport's capital improvement program for the upcoming five (5) fiscal years is due to Aviation Programs Office by December 31st of the current year. Fiscal years shown on the worksheet correspond to Georgia's state fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). We recommend discussing your airport's plan with your aviation project manager before submittal.
Applications
State and Federal Applications must be submitted along with the airport's CIP for projects requested for the upcoming fiscal year. State applications are to be submitted for state/local projects only. Federal applications are required when federal funds are being requested. A letter requesting state matching funds must be submitted with the federal application when appropriate.
Construction
Close Out
Once a project is complete, a final inspection has been held and all eligible federal and state funds have been paid to sponsor, our office begins project close out.
