Butts-Jones-Monroe Multi-County Study
In May 2007, the Georgia Department of Transportation initiated the Butts, Jones, and Monroe Multi-County Study which resulted in the development multi-modal transportation plans for the three counties. The study was conducted by HNTB, a consultant firm under contract to the Department.
The purpose of this study was to develop individual transportation plans for each county and its municipalities that identified transportation needs and projects to satisfy future travel demand. However, the three counties needed to be evaluated as a whole in order to address development impacts and infrastructure deficiencies that crossed county lines. This study evaluated and addressed the current and future transportation needs up to the year 2035.
Public participation was a key component of the study. The study developed a public participation plan and documented the input of the stakeholders and the general public. As part of the public participation process, a study advisory group was formed and utilized in each county. The study advisory group was utilized throughout the study.
The multi-modal transportation plan and recommended transportation improvements were presented prior to the conclusion of the study at public meetings in each county. The study was completed in summer 2008.
