17th Street Bridge Fence Canopy Failure Investigation

Overview

On Friday, January 20, 2012, Georgia DOT released an investigation report about the failure of the fence canopy on the 17th Street Bridge above the Downtown Connector in Atlanta.  On the night of August 13, 2011, a portion of the fence canopy on the south side of the bridge failed and fell onto the northbound lanes of I-75/85.

The highly regarded national forensic engineering firm, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., (WJE) of Northbook, IL conducted a study on behalf of Georgia DOT. Their findings are listed in the report below.
