US 411 Connector
US 411 Connector Newsletter
Project Overview
The purpose of the proposed US 411 Connector is to provide a direct connection between US 411, at its interchange with US 41 west of Cartersville, and I-75; and to relieve congestion along the existing US 411/SR 20 to I-75 corridor. Through traffic from the US 411 corridor typically travels eastward on the combined route of US 41/US 411 to its interchange with SR 61, utilizing SR 20 to access I-75 South.
Resources
Public Involvement
Georgia DOT held four Public Information Open Houses (PIOHs) and one Public Hearing Open House (PHOH) during the US 411 Connector project development process. For each open house, input was solicited on-site through comment forms and a court reporter. Additionally, comments could be mailed, emailed or submitted by calling a project hotline voice mail. All comments received as a result of the open houses have been added to the project record.
Environmental Documentation
When proposing a transportation project with Federal funding, environmental studies must be completed within the project's area of potential effect. These studies document the potential effects that a project may have on the natural, social, cultural and economic environments of an area. Once these studies are completed, the results are incorporated into an environmental document, which in this case is a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Preliminary Fieldwork
The fieldwork for wetlands, streams and threatened and endangered species including fish and mussels is now complete. Reports for these special studies are also complete. The fieldwork and the reports for historic and archaeological resources have been submitted and have received concurrence from the State Historic Preservation Officer.
Citizens Advisory Committee
The US 411 Connector project included a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) made up of a group of people with a diverse set of perspectives and opinions. The 27-member group was chosen to represent varying views of the community, including business, landowner, local government, agriculture, minority and environmental interests.
