US 411 Connector Public Involvement
Turnout for the PHOH was higher than the previous three open houses. The PHOH was attended by 363 people, while the other open houses had attendances of 206, 171, and 279, respectively. There were 41 written and 27 oral comments received at the PHOH; of these, 32 said they were ‘for’ the project, 17 said they were ‘against’ the project, eight were ‘conditional’, and 10 were ‘uncommitted’. Some of the main issues included: “Preserve as many trees as possible, provide sound walls, and provide landscaping within the median.”
Typically, the PHOH would be the final open house in the project development process; however, an additional PIOH was held to present information regarding proposed project changes due to a Value Engineering Study which was held to reduce the overall project cost. In addition, GDOT will hold meetings with affected stakeholders prior to making final decisions regarding noise wall materials and locations. GDOT will also meet with property owners prior to the right of way acquisition stage of the project.
