Project Delays
There are three main reasons for the delay of the project.
- The Consultant designer went out of business just prior to the beginning of work and was not able to complete the plans for the project.
- The plan required many revisions due to all of the changes along SR 141 such as new subdivisions and commercial retail development. The new developments were coordinated through GDOT but not accurately reflected in the plans by the design consultant. The revisions were major and took almost a year to get them fully implemented.
- Utility companies did not relocate their infrastructure before the work was scheduled to begin, delaying road work.
Recent Major Work
- On June 23rd, traffic was switched to the left side of the road way from the intersection of Sharon Road to Ronald Reagan Pkwy in order for the contractor to complete the intersection of Majors Road and to construct two main commercial driveways that tie into this location.
- On July 1st, traffic shifted to the right side of the project onto the new location south of Calloway Court to north of the intersection of Old Alpharetta Road and S.R. 141. This is to construct the left side of S.R. 141 along Big Creek Elementary School.
- On July 8, crews began reworking the intersection of SR 141 and Hemrick Road. Crews are adding a signal at Hemrick Road. Once the roadwork is completed Hemrick will line up with Old Atlanta Road and both side streets will have access controlled by a traffic signal.
- Paving is scheduled to begin on July 23, from Sharon Rd. to Ronald Regan Parkway. Upon completion of this work, approximately mid August if weather permits, traffic will be split into one lane each side of the median.
Motorist Safety
Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through a work zone. Signs will be posted alerting drivers of the work zone area. Speed limits in a work zone are reduced and enforced. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
