Electronic Plan Transfer

The DOT/Utility Electonic Plan Transfer Program was the recipient of the 1998 Awarding Computing Excellence (ACE) Award in the Service category by the Governor's Information Technology Policy Council!

Utility Companies in Georgia: Please review the guidelines below and then contact your local District Utilities Office for more info.

Description

EPT is the use of electronic files and FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to communicate highway project status to affected utility companies. The benefits of this process is that it:

  • Will save printing costs
  • Will speed project plan development
  • Will aid the Utility Companies in GIS applications

Utility companies can easily receive and send their utility information for highway projects in electronic format. Electronic files can be provided to Utility companies for the electronic placement of their existing and proposed facilities on DOT projects.

The Department currently uses MicroStation CAD software for plan development.

If your organization currently uses Microstation you may download the current GDOT Microstation Workspace that includes several custom menus, cell libraries, and linestyles that are employed when preparing plans for the Department. This setup will allow you to incorporate the standard line styles and cells shown below into your Microstation drawings.

Guidelines

Listed below is the Department's current guidelines that are to be followed when preparing and transferring electronic CADD files on Department Projects

Please see the following link for instructions on how to upload and download design files when using the GDOT Utility Redline software

Individual Guidelines for level symbology. These are the standard utility symbols that are used to show utilities on Department Project Plans

Wondering why these web parts are here?

The content in the web part below contains two links to the FTP site. The URLs in the links contain login credentials so outside users don't have to type them in manually (or even know them). They had to be put in a Content Editor Web Part instead of the RichHtmlField because SharePoint "helpfully" deletes the credentials from the URL when you save the page.

Utilities FTP Links

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a protocol used to send files over the Internet. FTP is the preferred method for sharing electronic plans because it performs well with large files. The links below provide access to the download and upload directories on GDOT's FTP site.

Notes: For best results, access the GDOT FTP site using Internet Explorer.  In order to place or retrieve files on the GDOT FTP site, the user will need to open the site in Windows Explorer.  Please refer to the Instructions for GDOT FTP Site Access for assistance.
