Guidelines For Geotechnical Studies - Foreword

The first edition of this manual was produced in January 2002, and was the result of many meetings between representatives of the Georgia DOT Geotechnical Bureau and the consulting community. The individuals who participated and provided input into the manual are acknowledged in the preface. It should be kept in mind that the manual is intended as a set of guidelines; however, some projects may require more drilling, testing and analysis, and some projects may require less. In addition, because the manual does not cover all situations or types of work associated with DOT projects, the State Geotechnical Engineer should be contacted for guidance in these cases. Because revisions to the manual are often made, remember to check the manual on line throughout the year to ensure that you are using the most recent templates and guidelines.
