Dahlonega/SR52 Subarea Study
Overview
The purpose of the study is to identify possible solutions to address the existing congestion at the SR-60 and SR-52/Morrison Moore Parkway intersection, and to identify solutions for potential transportation issues that may occur during the next twenty years as a result of continued growth and development in the Dahlonega area.
SR 52/Morrison Moore Parkway provides an alternative for traffic that does not want to travel through downtown Dahlonega. Located on the southern end of the corridor in the study area is North Georgia College and State University and on the northern end is a Wal-Mart. Located along the corridor is a new courthouse, government offices, Agora Foods and multiple restaurants.
Study Information
The study will develop a comprehensive approach to address current and future conditions in the subarea. This study is an opportunity to evaluate current and future land uses, economic development and how SR 52/Morrison Moore Parkway interacts with the current transportation network in the city of Dahlonega. An access management plan will be developed to mitigate impact of future development on travel conditions. The study will identify procedures to maintain the capacity and reduce safety concerns in the study area.
Public Meetings
As part of the study process a Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC) has been organized to provide guidance and feedback to the study team. The SAC is composed of members of the community who are knowledgeable about the study area. There will be four stakeholder meetings during the course of the study. The meetings are tentatively scheduled for October, March, June and August.
All stakeholder meetings will be open to the public for participation. This is an opportunity for citizens who are interested in the study to identify and discuss issues with the study team, review and comment on study material and to provide input on potential solutions.
